Lafayette Flying Corp Sterling Badge by Weingarten Gallery
Item Number: P-1570This is a museum quality reproduction of a very rare French wing from the World War One. On 4 August 1914 squadron DO22 was formed, but it was short lived and by 20 August it bccame MF22 flying over Belgium and Luxemberg. In july 1917 the squadron was moved to Italyto aid the Italian Army and became AR22. It was during this time frame they were asked to design a squadron emblem. They opted for the Roman She-wolf, a perfect symbol of the aid they had brought to their brothers in arms. In july 1918 they once again changed aircraft becoming SAL22 until they disbanded on 4 April 1919. The badge is 1 1/4 inches in diameter and hallmarked 800 Paris. A picture of the badge can be found on page 322 of French Military Aeronautical Branch Badges up to 1918 By Philippe Bartlett.
